Calling all historic aircraft enthusiasts, have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly in a B-17 Flying Fortress, Consolidated B-24 Liberator, or P-51 Mustang? If you can attend the Wings of Freedom Tour, it can become a reality. The Wings of Freedom Tour is hosted by the Collings Foundation. The goals of the tour are for visitors to learn about national history and honor the sacrifices of veterans.
Rare and unique aircraft will travel to over 100 cities in the US during the Wings of freedom tour. The aircraft shown are actual planes that were flown during WWII. The gem of the collection is “Witchcraft”, the only operational B-24J in the world. Visitors can explore the interior and exterior of the aircraft. The best way to experience history is firsthand, which is exactly what the Collings Foundation offers with each flight. The proceeds from each flight experience go directly to maintenance and operation costs for the aircraft. Passenger flights are available for the B-17, B-24, and B-25. The passenger flights have a duration of 30 minutes. For people that are want to experience flight in a fighter aircraft, the P-51 Mustang will do the trick. The Mustang experience includes 30 or 60 minute flight training in the dual-control aircraft.
The Collings Foundation promotes education for historic aircraft, automobiles, and military vehicles. The foundation originally started by restoring automobiles and race cars. The Collings Foundation is headquartered in Stow, Massachusetts and hosts 25+ events per year. The Foundation hosts restoration workshops that give aspiring mechanics and aircraft enthusiasts the opportunity to rebuild historic aircraft.
