WHY TORQUE TRANSDUCER CALIBRATION IS ESSENTIAL DURING AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE

In order to properly maintenance an aircraft it is essential to have accurately calibrated and well maintained instruments. One instrument that must consistently display high-performance measurements is a torque transducer, also known as a torque sensor. A torque transducer is used to measure the performance of an engine. The transducer converts mechanical input into electrical output. When performing aircraft maintenance the accuracy of this tool is critical. TWO TYPES OF TORQUE TRANSDUCERS
REACTION TORQUE TRANSDUCERS

A reaction torque transducer is the turning force applied to a still load source. As the transducer rotates, power is being absorbed. During rotation, torque is sensed when the still load source is held rigid. These transducers cannot rotate 360° and do not used bearing or slip rings.

ROTARY TORQUE TRANSDUCERS

A rotary torque transducer works similarly to a reaction torque transducer, however, a rotary torque transducer can rotate 360°. For this reason, rotary torque transducers need to be installed in line and require a way for the signal to be transferred. This is usually done by using slip rings or a telemetry.
