HOW TO PRACTICE PROPER MAINTENANCE ON TRONAIR TIRE PRESSURE GAUGES

Proper calibration of a Tronair tire pressure gauge is extremely important. A tire pressure gauge that doesn’t read accurately and consistently can cause a handful of issues including, installation of defective tires on an aircraft. Defective tire installation can result in severe risks such as safety hazards and damage to an aircraft.
In order to minimize these risks, proper calibration of your Tronair tire pressure gauge is necessary. Calibration of Tronair pressure gauges is also required among Safety Assurance Systems (SAS) and Quality Management programs.

NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF IMPROPER CALIBRATION

When checking aircraft tires with a Tronair tire pressure gauge, tires should read ± 5% of the manufacturer specified pressure. If a Tronair pressure gauge is not calibrated properly, it will not be able to read correctly, which could lead to several negative effects.

OVER INFLATION

If a tire is over inflated, chances of tire thread experiencing higher rates of wear are likely. When higher rates of wear occur, there is a high probability of an aircraft tire ripping.

UNDER INFLATION

Repercussions of an under inflated tire are more severe than those of an over inflated. If a tire is under inflated, it will wear unevenly, which leads to early replacement of the tire all together. Tire integrity is also compromised when a tire is under inflated because under inflated tires generate more heat.

IMPORTANCE OF CALIBRATION

Tronair tire pressure gauge calibration verifies reading accuracy and reliability. Technicians must be able to rely on Tronair tire pressure gauge readings to ensure tires are properly inflated and are holding pressure. When accurate readings are present, technicians are able to make educated decisions regarding tire quality.
